| Summary: | Thanking the recipient for sending him "so many useful copies of modern plays". Mentions the edition de luxe of "The Lily of the Field". Suggests that the part of the king would suit George Alexander. The recipient is probably the playwright Richard Neville Lynn, who was the editor of Lynn's Acting Editions of modern plays, and he had evidently sent Wilde several of the volumes. No. 18 in the series was the one-act comedy "The Lily of the Field", by Charles Hannan. George Alexander was one of the leading actor-managers of the day and in February 1895 played the first John Worthing in "The Importance of Being Earnest". |
