Album of portrait supplements to 'Society' 1883, dated Jan. 6 - Dec. 29, 1883. Most of the plates are labelled "Society Bijou Portraits". The first plate issued [issue date Jan. 6 1883 of George Goldsmith] and the second plate issued [Jan. 13 1883 of actress Florence St. John] are unnumbered; however all consecutive plates issued are numbered from No. 3 (issued Jan. 20 1883 of actress Miss Violet Cameron as Gretchen [in a theatre production of] 'Rip Van Winkle') to No. 52 [issued Dec. 29 1883, a plate of Alfred Tennyson, Poet Laureate].

Armorial bookplate [with the motto 'Quod Vult Valde Vult' - "What he wishes, he fervently wishes'] of H.R. Maunsell pasted on front endpaper. "H.R. [Harry Rhys] Maunsell, Abbeylands, Killiney" blind stamped on front endpaper. Maunsell was a solicitor and a member of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland.
