A proclamation:

I, Major-General Sir E.G.T. Bainbridge, Commanding 1st Division, Competent Military Authority ... do hereby order and require (1). That every person within the county of the city of Belfast shall remain indoors between the hours of 10-30 o'clock p.m. and 5 o'clock a.m., unless provided with a permit in writing from the Competent Military Authority, or some person duly authorized by him. (2). That all places of entertainment within the county of the city of Belfast shall be closed at 9.30 o'clock p.m. and that the tramways service within the same area shall be suspended at 9-30 o'clock p.m. ... /

Notes:Proclamation issued 30th August, 1920. At bottom of proclamation is stated [under NOTICE] that "(1) Medical Practitioners, Nurses and Ministers of Religion may apply for Permits allowing them to be out of doors within the area defined in above Proclamation, on professional duties only during prohibited hours". (2) No other permits will be issued save in exceptional cases of absolute necessity". (3) Applications for Permits for Medical Practitioners, Nurses and Ministers of Religion must apply for them personally from "The Permit Officer" at Victoria Barracks, Belfast, between the hours of 10am-1pm and 2-4pm. Remarks [under section (4)] "Disobedience of the above Orders will incur danger of being shot by the fire of the Military and Police on duty for the maintenance of order".
