| Summary: | Bound in brown paper. Yeats has signed the title page and final page of text with his name and Fitzwilliam Square address. MacGowran directed the play in 1949 at the Abbey Experimental Theatre; this typescript was prepared for the 1956 BBC Third Programme, a year before the author and artist's death. Yeats has made corrections or added instructions to at least nine pages, although there are many other cross-outs and arrows that are probably in his hand. With a copy of the published play (Dublin, 1964), edited and with an introduction by MacGowran, an affectionate memoir in which he recalls visiting Yeats to discuss this broadcast, on which occasion they presumably prepared this typescript. |
