Following the forced resignation of dictator Primo de Rivera in January 1930, King Alfonso XIII ordered Dámaso Berenguer to form a government; he repealed a number of measures introduced by Primo de Rivera, earning his regime the nickname dictablanda [‘the toothless dictatorship’].
