Research by our Flickr community established that Thomas set up a photographic business in Castlebar, Mayo in 1867. Descendants of Thomas Wynne contributed information about the Wynne family. Mike Hannon, Thomas Wynne’s great-great-grandson, told us how Thomas’ daughter Mary (Mike’s great-grandmother), set up her own studio in Loughrea, Galway in the 1890s. Thomas Wynne’s other sons did likewise in Limerick, Tipperary, and Portarlington. After 144 years in business, Wynne’s of Castlebar closed in 2011.

Featured in the National Library of Ireland's "Photo Detectives" exhibition at the National Photographic Archive, Dublin, 2017-2018.
