The big fence
The G.O.M. (on Commons). - "What! refusing again - Come, clear this in a crack, and I will put on grass till next December.".
Printed text continues: Commons. - "I would take the jump willingly enough ; but what about the fellow with the big stick?"; Fellow with the Big Stick. [Charles Stewart Parnell] -"If you attempt to pass this (of)-fence I will make it very hot for you for months to come, my fine fellows.". William Gladstone (1809-1898) is depicted riding on a "House of Commons horse", attempting to jump a fence entitled "Coercion" with Charels Stewart Parnell depicted on the other side, brandishing a club engraved with the words "The Irish Party".
