A lame excuse
Directors of D. W. W. R. Co.-"Look here, my good people! We find, on consideration, that we cannot allow you to have your day's excursion to Mr. Parnell's house. You might possible soil the cushions of the carriages, and that would displease the odd landlord or two who occasionally travel on our line. But if you arrange any other kind of expedition, we will not mind the cushions, and shall be very glad to take your cash as of yore."
