Caricature featuring Arthur Balfour and Hubert George de Burgh-Canning, 2nd Marquess of Clanricarde (1832-1916), considered one of the worst absentee landlords in Ireland. His 52,000 acre estate in Portumna, Co. Galway was the main target during the 1887 Plan of Campaign which fought for fair rents for tenants [led by members of the Irish Parliamentary Party]; thousands of families had been evicted from his estate during the late 1880's, resulting in their mass destitution. With references to the Olphert and Ponsonby estates on banners in the background, where tenants were also evicted during the Plan of Campaign.
