He sat in the House of Commons from 1640 to 1642; as an elected Member of Parliament for Pontefract [West Yorkshire, England] in the Short Parliament (April 1640); re-elected as Member of Parliament for Pontefract for the Long Parliament in November 1640 but disabled from sitting in parliament in September 1642 having joined the Royalists.
