Printed l.c. on sheet: "Under the Superintendance of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge". Sheet with inscription in ink pasted u.c. on sheet: "Who can believe with common sense, ... Does he regard on what we dine." From a picture now in the Bodleian Library, Oxford. "Swift by C. Jervas, Bodleian Library Oxford". According to W.G. Strickland in his book "Dictionary of Irish Artists", Vol 1., 1913, p. 550, this picture "is almost certainly the one commenced by Jervas in 1709 and finished the following year.
