From a picture now in the Bodleian Library, Oxford. "Swift by C. Jervas, Bodleian Library Oxford". According to W.G. Strickland in his book "Dictionary of Irish Artists", Vol 1., 1913, p. 550, this picture "is almost certainly the one commenced by Jervas in 1709 and finished the following year. It was presented to Oxford by Swift's friend Alderman John Barber in 1739. The picture was engraved by G. Vertue under the supervision of Jervas himself in 1715 or 1716".
