Summary: | Frontispiece to Volume XVII of George Faulkner's edition of Swift's "Works", 1768 of Esther Johnson, (1681-1728), Dean Swift's "Stella". Head and shoulders, to front, face to right, three-quarter face, looking to front, low cut dress, with mantle over right shoulder and across front, hair falling at back of shoulders, large curls at back of left shoulder; oval in rectangle. After an original drawing by Revd. George Parnel which should read Dr. Thomas Parnell, (1679-1718). Parnell died in 1717 - it is possible that he drew this portrait in 1716. |
