Summary: | Two illustrations, one framed by the other, which was originally published in the "Illustrated London News", 7 September, 1844. The centre illustration is of Thomas Purdon, Governor of Richmond Penitentiary, Dublin, Ireland while the illustration in the frame depicts Daniel O'Connell, M.P., (1775-1847), apparently having a good time within the prison walls of Richmond Penitentiary. The article accompaning the illustration of Purdon, condemns him for being too lenient towards O'Connell and the other prisoners.
