Summary:Inscribed in red ink by Thomas Matthew Ray, (1801-1881), on article "Portrait of Daniel O'Connell": Nation 19 June 1849. Not so - I have a daguerreotype portrait and are all fine save for which he sat in Richmond Bridewell. It is taken by [...] Dubreil. T.M. Ray". Also article entitled "O'Connell's Portrait and Memoir" includes text from a letter from Daniel O'Connell to John Jones praising the bust of himself from which the portrait was engraved. Another article is present below this, entitled "Portrait of Daniel O'Connell, Esq., taken by Beard's Patent Daguerotype". Text printed l.c. states "Shortly will be published of an enlarged size, a hight finished and most exact Lithograph from this Daguerrotype, a proof of which will be forwarded (free) to every purchaser of a Daguerotype" - see PD 2102 TX (1) 16A for the lithograph.
