Summary:Portrait of poet and wrtier Caroline Elizabeth Sarah, née Sheridan, Lady Stirling-Maxwell, (1808-1877), 2nd wife of Sir William Stirling-Maxwell, who firstly George C. Norton and as such was known as "Hon Mrs Norton". Whole-length, seated at table, pouring tea from urn into a cup, turned to left and looking at urn with a framed portrait of dramatist Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751-1816) hanging on the wall behind her [similar to the oil painting of in 1788-1789 of Sheridan as an M.P. by Sir Joshua Reynolds, (1723-1792), now in the Parliamentary Art Collection, Westminister - catalogue number WOA 5415].

Credits:Attributed to Daniel Maclise, (1806-1870), who contributed character sketches of contemporaries for Fraser's Magazine under the pseudonym Alfred Croquis. The sketches were later published as "The Maclise Portrait Gallery" (1871). The sketches were published again in 1874 and 1883.
