Those elected at the 1918 general election, rather than attending the British House of Commons in London, to which they had been elected, assembled instead in the Mansion House, Dublin on 21 January 1919 to create a new Irish parliament - the First Dáil Éireann. This broadside features the image of one of the first meetings of Dáil Éireann in the Mansion House, Dublin in 1919. This central image is surrounded by small oval portrait images of the Teachtaí Dála [members of the Dáil, the T.D.s], around whom there is much interlace zoomorphic decorative work on the sheet. Printed lower left of sheet: "Clann Mhac Mhic Eothaidh, Fótó" [Keogh Bros., Photographers]. Printed lower right of sheet: MacLiam, Eartnaill & a gct. [Wilson, Hartnell & Co., publishers].
