Summary:The scales of Repeal. Daniel O'Connell, M.P., holding green coloured flags with the words 'No Compromise' and 'Repeal' written on them, is weighed on the scales labelled 'Justice' (which has a quotation from Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' written on it - "Foul Deeds Will Rise"). The balance underneath O'Connell that has the word 'Truth' written on it, weighs in his favour. Behind him are a mass of supporters, [labelled 'Seven Millions'], one of whom holds a banner with the word 'Temperance' on it. Opposite O'Connell, in a in a balance labelled 'Plunder' are bishops, members of the legal profession, John Bull, Sir Robert Peel, Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, members of the British Army and others, who are joined by a host of little black devils; a document labelled 'Arms Bill' and the Clontarf Proclamation are just visible amongst the tumultuous melee.
