Summary: | Lord Charles Cornwallis, (1738-1805), receiving the sons of Tipu Sultan, Nawab of Mysore, (1753-1799). Tipu Sultan was defeated by Cornwallis's troops at Seringapatam, India, on 23rd February 1792. He had to sign the preliminaries of peace. The conditions were that he was to give over one half of his dominions, release all his prisoners, give his two eldest sons as hostages, and an enormous subside in money. |
