Summary:Scene of the siege of Tim Hurley's Mill at Castleview, County Cork, Ireland. Five scenes are depicted on this print: "The attack on the Barricaded Window" / "Incident of the Siege. A Policeman falls into a trap on First Loft" / "Bringing the Land League Hut from Clonakilty to Castleview" / "A successful seizure of food for the Besieged" / "The Siege of Hurley's Mill".Hurly could not afford his rent and Fr. Lucey asked his landlord Francis Bennett, Magistrate of the Island, to lower his rent. Bennett refused and sent a force of men to evict Hurley. The men arrived to find the house locked and barricaded against them. The bailiffs rushed with a battering ram against the shuttered parlour window and were met by showers of scalding water from the upstairs windows. The eviction failed but the next day Hurley was arrested. "United Ireland" sent a special reporter to Clonakilty, and devoted a whole page to the event.
