C.W. Cole spent time in Ireland working as a special artist for the The Graphic reporting on the events relating to the Irish Land League, 1880. He covered Charles Stewart Parnell's visit to Limerick (1st and 2nd November, 1880) to receive the freedom of the city and attend a land league demonstration.

Published in slightly altered form as a wood engraving, under the title"5. A tramp", as part of a series of engravings entitled "The Land Agitation in Ireland", on page 577, The Graphic Newsppaer, December 11th, 1880.
