Cole contributed to The Graphic from April 1880, when he was appointed as special artist to report on events such as the so-called Boycott Relief Expedition (12th - 26th November 188) at Lough Mask. Some of the sketches in this album were published, in slightly altered form, as wood engravings in The Graphic.
