Summary: | Pencil sketch of Daniel O'Connell, (1775-1847), seen sheltering under a large umbrella, at one of the "Monster Meetings" at Mullaghmast, County Kildare, Ireland, held by O'Connell during the frenetic "Repeal of the Union" agitations of 1843. According to a witness, O'Connell is wearing "his furred robe of scarlet, and his gold chain, which he wore as Lord Mayor of Dublin, hung round his neck; he had a little travelling cap on his head...". |
