One of the dead holds the Irish tricolour with the letters I.R. on it. References are made in the text to two of the 16 leaders executed after the Easter Rising of 1916 in Kilmainham Gaol, 8 May 1916 - Con Colbert, (1888-1916) and Séan Heuston, (1891-1916).
