Howth Head from Kingstown [Dún Laoghaire]

[graphic].
Bibliographic Details
Summary:Panoramic view of Howth Head from Kingstown now known as Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, showing also the East Pier and the East Pier Battery with lighthouse. In the foreground is a horse surrounded by slabs of stone. The pier itself appears unfinished [so it is probable that the slabs are used for the building of the harbour - the harbour building commenced in 1817 and by 1821 the East and West piers were completed, but work of reinforcing the East Pier continued for at least another 30 years. Carlisle Pier, not visible in the drawing, was added in 1852 and parts of the West Pier stone works have never been finished].
