Notes: | Published by Leonard Smithers. Cf. Mason, S. Wilde (new ed.), page 552. The letters appeared in the Pall Mall gazette, the World, and Truth, 1885-1890. Also included are selections from Whistler's The gentle art of making enemies. At least two printings of this edition are known to exist. In one, the first line of the statement of limitation (page [2]) ends with the word "paper". In the other printing, in which a different typeface is used throughout, the first line of the statement of limitation ends with the word "large". "Four hundred copies on small quarto paper, and one hundred large paper copies on demy octavo paper, have been printed of this brochure"--page [2]. Physical description: 20 pages ; 20 cm.
