Written presumably in 1894, not for publication, but as a gift to a friend, Mrs. Chan Toon (later Mrs. Wodehouse-Pearse) C.S. Millard regarded the work as a forgery imposed by Mrs. Chan Toon, and his accusations resulted in a libel suit instituted by Methuen & co., in which the verdict was rendered against Mr. Millard.
