| Notes: | Paul Sandby (1731-1809) was in Edinburgh in the 1740's, and Luke Herrmann's "Paul Sandby in Scotland" (The Burlington Magazine 106, 1964, p. 340) mentions an "East View of Edinburgh castle", an original drawing, of about 1746-1747. This original drawing might have been the basis for this engraving. Title inscribed l.c. within plate mark.
