Notes:Date inscribed on the stone over the gate of the castle is debatable. According to Lord Killanin and Micheal Duignan in "The Shell Guide to Ireland" (2nd ed. (London, 1962)), page 83, the date is 1572.

Inscribed in ink l.c. under scale of feet: Over the Gate of this Castle on a Stone is engraved Anthony Branzon. 1597.

Inscribed in ink l.r.: At about 200 yds. in front are the remains of an antient [sic] Dike cut from one arm of the River to the other deep and broad.

Inscribed in ink m.l.: Ballinasloe Bridge.

Inscribed in ink on various parts of the drawing: An Island.

Title inscribed in ink m.c.

Watermark is a fleurs-de-lys above a shield with diagonal bars.
