Cooper would appear to have drawn this abbey while on a tour of parts of south Leinster in the summer of 1782. He made comments about the antiquities illustrated in this image in his diary for August 15th, 1782 (NLI Ms. Acc. 4841, Kildare, Carlow, Queen's County 1782, page 20)
