Austin Cooper drew the castle on a visit to Kildare, in August, 1782. He has a passage about his visit to Kilkea Castle on August 11th, 1782 (NLI Ms. Acc. 4841, Kildare, Carlow, Queen's County etc. 1782, page 10)
