Drawn by Austin Cooper when he was touring the province of Munster in the summer of 1781 perhaps gathering money from area tax collectors, or working as a Paymaster to the Civil and Military Establishments. He may even have been showing himself from behind in the shape of the person sitting in the foreground with his back turned to the artist
