Summary:The Colclough collection comprises papers relating to the Colclough family of Tintern, Co. Wexford, and their estates, acquired from Lucy Biddulph-Colclough in 1982. Anthony Colclough acquired Tintern in 1575 by a royal grant from Elizabeth I; within two generations his family, by alliances with the Butler, Kavanagh and Loftus families, had become one of the most important in Co. Wexford. The collection includes some items relating to the general history of Wexford as well as a number of items relating to counties Carlow, Laois and Kilkenny. The majority of the papers relate to the Colclough estates while several of the later documents concern legal cases and suits. Personal papers are not well represented in this collection.
