C.W. Cole spent time in Ballinrobe, County Mayo. He was working as a special artist for the Graphic reporting on the events relating to the Irish Land League in the west of Ireland. At Ballinrobe he covered the so-called Boycott Relief Expedition (12th - 26th November 1880). This drawing shows police and army on guard outside the jail at Ballinrobe, County Mayo
