Summary:This is an etching that is a version of the one published by J. Sidebotham, held at NLI call number PD 2173 TX (4). Four prominent Irish legal figures are depicted - William Downes, 1st Baron Downes and Chief Justice of the King's Bench in Ireland accompanied by Thomas Manners-Sutton, 1st Baron Manners and Lord Chancellor of Ireland with John Toler, 1st Earl of Norbury and Chief Justice of the Court of Pleas in Ireland and Standish O'Grady, 1st Viscount Guillamore and Chief Baron of the Exchequer in Ireland. Behind them on the wall hangs a satirical print of John Philpot Curran on horseback, carrying legal documents; it is entitled "Master of the Scrolls" [Curran was Master of the Rolls from 1807 to 1814] and alongside hangs a image that is a view of the Four Courts. On a table covered with green cloth and legal books and documents are scattered - 'Term Reports', 'Motion For new Trial', 'Bankrupt Petitions', '[O]ffice Copy Bill' while on the floor can be seen other legal documents - 'Information in the Exchequer'; 'Decrees in Chancery'; 'Reports'; 'Briefs', 'McCleary Si[Sidebotham] action for Defamation'.
