| Summary: | Collection records botanical subjects. Other subjects include: Irish landscapes and structures; still lifes with plates, drink and food; portraits of H.H. Dixon; parrots and photographs of slides taken through a microscope. Many of the slides taken by Joly include botanical subjects, as well as Irish landscapes and structures, portraits of Joly's lifelong friend and TCD colleague H.H. Dixon, parrots, printed advertisments and Japanese prints, still lifes and photographs of slides taken through a microscope. However, there are also a large number of glass plates from photographers such Thomas H. Mason and photographic studios such as William Lawrence's which were presumably bought by Joly but this is unclear. |

| Notes: | Some slides/negatives are captioned. The material located on shelves 0673, 0945, 0946, 0948 (597, glass negatives, 227 lantern slides, 7 stereo pairs, 20 b&w prints, 1 plastic negative) is unsorted: it can possibly be attributed to Joly. A lantern slide numbered "52 crossed, 42" and captioned "vase of cyclamen" was found in a box called "PC02 Lot13b - Duggan Collection" on shelf 1415: it is most likely Joly. It was moved to shelf 0941 and kept in a separate phase box. See also H.H. Dixon Photographic Collection vtls 529319 on Shelf 0673. Three boxes moved from workroom two and added to shelf number 0936.
