| Summary: | Matthew Wood, (1768-1843) was appointed an Alderman in London in 1807, a position he held until his death and was elected to serve as an M.P. for the constituency of London from 10 June 1817 to 25 September 1843. Born in Devon, he had a brother in business at Dublin and visited Ireland - his bill for the better employment of the poor through the encouragement of partnership in the fisheries, trade and manufactures of the country was brought in on 10 April 1818 but it failed that session and he reintroduced it as the Irish partnerships bill on 5 May and 14 December 1819, with the aim of promoting English capital investment in Ireland.
