I've a photo of the front of the GPO, taken from over near those trams. Probably taken by my great-grandfather who who had an office in Anglesea Street.

One of the interesting things about this shot is that you can just make out the fallen flagpole from which the "Irish Republic" flag flew - it's on the near top corner of the GPO. (I posted the same comment about a previous pic, but the pole is more obvious here.)

Definitely late May - ie, after the 17th. See Westropp's sequence of pics of demolition of the building in the foreground (Metropole Hotel) on the RIA's site: discovery.dho.ie/index.php#%7B%22fq%22%3A%22(UI_dc_subject%3A%5C%22Easter%20Rising%201916%5C%22)%22%7D

@65361386@N05 Oh, pefect! Thanks - great to have that confirmation. And you're right, the flagpole is so much clearer in this one...

@swordscookie Ha! I was wondering if you'd remember that balcony shot. And we decided in the end, with guliolopez's help that they were perched on the rebuilt Metropole...

@65361386@N05 Would you please mind reposting that DHO Westropp link? It's a little ill...

No problem - It may be my old browser, but it's a very slow site, so here's the search page: cats.ria.ie/photoadvanced.html Just type "Easter Rising" into the Subject box. Cheers.

@nlireland Of course, and the 'tache is distinctly reminiscent of Dr Vincent White. [It's a picture of the Shah of Persia from the 1890s]

@johnspooner Final pic of Dr Vincent White coming up in the next few days, with him looking rather like a smiling Poirot as played by David Suchet...
