Summary: | Ticket of admission [printed in Paris] to a charitable ball to be held in Florence on Thursday 15 April 1847 in aid of the distressed Irish and Scotch. Parallel title: Biglietto d'Ingresso al Ballo a benefizio degl'infelici Irlandesi e Scozzesi featuring at bottom of card lithographed onto a scroll a quotation from Victor Hugo "Donnez, riches l'aumône est soeur de la prière" [Give, rich [people] almsgiving is the sister of prayer']. Lithographed image on ticket features a profusion of shamrocks and thistles, the symbols of Scotland and Ireland; a swan feeding her young and cherubs playing in garlands of wheat. At right of card is an illustration of a lady and her little boy giving alms to a young mother who has a small child in her arms; at left of card a woman consoles two young children who appear to be in disress while a concerned older man stands near them. |
