To the Right Honorable and Honorable, the Knights, Burgesses, &c., in Parliament assembled the petition of the Board of Guardians, Thurles Union...
Signed on behalf of the Board, P. B. Ryan, Chairman
|Main Creator:||Thurles Poor Law Union|
Refers to the recent murder of Thomas Dillon who was serving notice on tenants due to be evicted from their land at Kilmahill, near Thures, Co. Tipperary and continues "...It may be argued that the failure of the Potato crop is the cause of our present distress. Supposing it to be the immediate cause, your Petitioners respectfully submit that if the rights of the tenants had been protected during the last century as well as the rights of the landlords the failure of the Potato crop, or any particular crop, could never has entailed such misery on an industrious and wll-disposed people".
