Bagwell Estate Papers,

1675-1974.

The Bagwells were a wealthy Anglo-Irish landowning family, based at Marlfield House outside Clonmel, Co Tipperary. During the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries they owned large amounts of land in counties Tipperary and Waterford, as well as premises in Clonmel and Dublin. Many generations of the family were involved in local and national government, including MPs John Bagwell (1751–1816), William Bagwell (1776–1826), John Bagwell (1811–1883) and senator John Philip Bagwell (1874–1946). These papers consist largely of leases and deeds, but also include estate and financial papers, maps and correspondence, dating from the late 17th to the 20th century.
