Patrick J. Doyle was born on 2nd January 1884 in Tullow, Co. Carlow. He attended Knockbeg College between 1896 and 1901. He studied for the priesthood at Carlow College for one year between 1901 and 1902, and then transferred to Maynooth. He was ordained in 1908 for the Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin. He was on the staff of Carlow College from 1909 to 1914, then then served as rector in Knockbeg College, Co. Carlow, which was used as a place of meeting and refuge by several members of Sinn Féin. In November 1920 he was appointed Parish Priest in Naas, Co. Kildare, and served in that capacity until May 1938. While he was at Carlow College, he founded the College magazine 'The Carlovian' in 1911. He died on 29th May 1962.
