John J. Hearn of Westfield, Connecticut was born in 1868. He was a longtime supporter of Eamon De Valera and the republican cause. He worked on the bond-certificate drive in America and became the Secretary of American Association for the Recognition of the Irish Republic who financed the bondholder's committee. The committee was placed under Hearn's chairmanship and became known as the "Hearn Committee".
