Title written in pencil on verso of sheet. Watercolour drawing depicting two women in the left middle distance (apparently washing clothes) on the banks of the river Tay, Stradbally, Co. Waterford, while another woman nearby carries a vessel on her head (on the way to collect water?); a man adjacent to her carries a walking stick over his shoulder. Two small wooden boats are located on the nearby jetty while another in the water, is tethered alongside. The school house is depicted in the middle distance, surrounded by shrubbery in front of the building. Large trees grow on a steep incline behind the building. In the right middle distance a man on a horse is depicted riding over a stone bridge on which two women, seen from behind, are depicted, both wearing cloaks.

Down and a fragment of a letter written from Colchester. Nolan's letter written from Armagh is dated 16 June 1899, prior to his departure for South Africa.
