Helen Hooker O'Malley's love of traditional Irish music dated from the 1930s. She found The Chieftains' authenticity, skill, and soul especially appealing. Having relished their concerts in Dublin and New York she asked to photograph Paddy Moloney, and later sculpted him. Like many of Helen's portraits, these images were taken at her home in Lansdowne Park, Ballsbridge, Dublin, where she also established a sculpture studio.

Exhibited as part of 'A Modern Eye: Helen Hooker O'Malley's Ireland', 20 June-2 November 2019 at the National Photographic Archive
