Influenced by George Cruikshank's 'Lodgings to Lett', published in 1814 by R Harrild, Eastcheap, London (see British Museum number 1951,0411.4.4) which was based on Charles Williams' print published on 21 November 1814 by William Holland, 11 Cockspur St., London. See BM Satires 12398. This print lettered with title "Lodgings to Let." and "Vide Repository of Wit" followed by publication line "Pub. by McCleary 21 Nassau Street". Text within image "Folios of caricatures hired out for the evening". The scene depicted takes place in a corridor or hallway outside the entrance to a bedroom; through an open door the interior of the room with a bed and a mirror on a stand can be seen. A man wearing a bicorne hat and fashionable clothes grabs an attractive young woman - his hand is around her waist while his right hand he holds her right arm. He says “To the Lodgings you say - are A Guinea and a half per week, and pray my dear, are you to be let along with them?”. She attempts to flee, responding 'No, Sir. I am to be let alone, if you please'.
