Description: | Lettered within plate mark 'Pray Mam, what do you think of our New Dress? Indeed your Dress is well enough, but I don't like it so well as your Privates" with publication line "Drawn by W. Heath. Printed by T. Cooke Dublin". The scene of the print is an army encampment - a fashionable young woman is depicted seated on a Grecian couch; a small wicker basket is beside her and she has a red stole to her right, while a small table is in front of her with flowers in a vase. A green carpet is on the ground. Located immediately behind is a tent, the entrance to it is open; in the left background five other tents can be seen, while a soldier in the left middle distance, seen from behind, stands holding a red pennant [flag]. Beside the woman, in the left foreground are the two soldiers she is addressing - one is seen in profile, the other full length, turned to the right and looking at her. They are both splendidly dressed, with a profusion of yellow braiding on their uniforms. |
