Description:Lettered with title "A New Military Sedan Invented at Belfast", inscribed underneath this within plate "Plate 4th" with publication line "DUB. Pub.d by M Williamson, Grafton St.". An young woman is depicted with her skirts pulled up and tied with a green ribbon around her neck, leaving her exposed. She wears a mob cap of bright green material on her head. He is seated on two bayonettes carried by leering soldiers. In the left background is a brick wall with satirical notices attached. One reads "By Royal Authority is now performing the Comedy of [words crossed out] Belfast..." and behind this a playbill "The Victim / a new piece/ never acted before tragedy...Virgin Unmask'd". This caricature is a reference to incident that occurred in Newry in 1797 where soldiers from the Scottish Fencible Regiment slashed the green garters of a woman who supported the United Irishmen, tied her skirt around her neck and paraded her in an exposed situation through the town of Newry. See Kevin Whelan's 'Fellowship of Freedom", published by Cork University Press, 1998.
