In Collection: Collection of caricatures, mainly set in Dublin
Description:The design of this print is influenced by George Cruikshank's 'Quadrilles. Third set', published 11 April 1817 by Hannah Humphrey, 27 St James's Street, London. See BM Satires 12926. This print lettered with title 'Quadrilles. Third set' and publication line "Pub. by McCleary 32 Nassau St. Dublin". Cropped within plate mark. Five couples are depicted in a room with a boarded floor; eight of the group (one of whom wears a military uniform, and is seen from behind) are dancing a quadrille, while in the left foreground a man and a woman are flirting - she holds a fan up to her face with her left hand, while looking down and away from him, smiling. She holds up part of the material of her skirt with her right hand while moving forward her right leg, as though about to dance. Behind her, within a minstrel's gallery, a man plays a violin; other musicians are seated behind him. A chandelier hangs from the ceiling, while red festoon curtains hang at each of the windows within the room.
