Dumbarton says he is pleased to serve the king and asks Tyrconnel to speak on his behalf, and to let him know if the king wishes him to serve in Ireland; and if not, he hopes not to lose his military commands in England and Scotland.

Notes:The writer spells his name 'Dunbarton'. The letter is endorsed on the back 'Ld. Dunbarton, answered 10th Aprill 90. Mem.dm. this was given me at Dublin 5th July where the committee met [?] if by M. Barry'.

George Douglas, Earl of Dumbarton, was an army officer, who took military service under Louis XIV, and later was an integral member of James II's Catholic court party.
